Holiday Hills Covered Porch
In this project we were asked to extend the roof off the back of the house to cover an existing deck. We were also asked to repair some rotten wood in the fascia in a few areas around the house.

For this project we had to dig and pour concrete footings for the new posts that are holding up the new roof. Due to wind load requirements the footings had to be quite large in order to act like an anchor holding the roof in high winds. Once we had the posts installed, we could begin creating the beams that connect the posts together and to the house. After the beams were attached, we had a frame we could start creating the roof framing on.
We attached the ridge beam first, then ran rafters from the ridge to the outside beams. After that we installed OSB roof decking, integrating it into the existing roof system. We installed roof underlayment and had a roofer come shingle it with architectural shingles.
After that we build an L shaped bench into the corner of the deck. Then we installed beadboard under the roof structure to hide the roof framing. We finished it off with decorative wood elements and wrapped the beams with thin plywood in order to allow much of the new porch to be painted. Treated wood products don’t take paint as well as dry, non-treated wood products. Eventually the treated wood will dry and stabilize, allowing them to be painted.
We will be adding pictures of the finished and painted project soon!
